    KINDRED CHROMAS

is as much about relationships as it is about art.

The artists Louis and Marc share a vivid friendship. They easily refer to each other as "brother". They are as the exhibition title states - "kindred".

The artworks at hand also share a myriad of relationships regarding chroma. Both bodies of work explore and experiment the nature of color and how it perceived by the human eye. Intimately related to the exploration of color is the nature of light and how it impacts our perception of color.

Many artists experiment with color and light as an element of their paintings. Marc and Louis both embrace color and light as THE primary creative & conceptual elements of their abstract artwork.

There is a fundamental co-consideration from both artists regarding light. They both understand and account for the very nature of light itself and how it literally illuminates their work. Whether ambient or artificial, the differing nature of light and it's impact on our experience of viewing their artwork are defining considerations for both artists' creative trajectory.

Given these similarities of their kindred chromatic approaches to creating art, these fellow travelers diverge in the media and textures they incorporate into their art work. Louis' painterly medium is aerated oil paint via onto typically generous canvases, while Marc's painterly results are created using plexiglass, mirrors and prismatic filters constructed into a format he refers to as light boxes.
